From tomorrow (1st May 2020) the DVSA are making a temporary change to car and vocational emergency driving tests, to help reduce the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

What will change:

Examiners will end emergency tests early if a candidates commits:

• a serious or dangerous fault

• a total of 16 driver faults

This is to help reduce the amount of time the candidate and the examiner spend in the vehicle, when the candidate has failed their test.

In these circumstances, the examiner will instruct the candidate to drive back to the test centre instead of continuing for the full time, before they tell the candidate they have failed.

Motorcycle module 2 tests will not be affected by this change.

Applicants will be asked to supply their ID at the start of the application, so the DVSA have all the information they need to confirm eligibility for an emergency test.

While no official advice has been issued by HSE or NHS England on it, the Irish Petroleum Industry Association released a statement.

It said: "We wanted to inform customers that pump handles are no more or less prone to the spread of infection than any other hard surface and to outline the significant steps we are taking to combat the spread of Covid-19 and keep our valued customers safe."

"We are following all advice from the HSE and relevant authorities and would ask our valued customers to do the same."

"Please wash or sanitise your hands before and after using fuel pumps and/or wear gloves."

“Wherever possible our members are providing hand sanitiser as well as gloves and paper towels for use at the fuel pumps and we respectfully ask all customers to use only what they need and to leave supplies for others.”
