9th Jun 2026 - The third and final changes to driving test booking rules.
From today, the third and final change to the driving test booking rules come into force. Location limitations will now apply when moving an existing test booking. You will only be able to change the location of your driving test to the 3 nearest test centres to where you booked.

Today marks 21 years of MSM Driving School. Over the years, we have had the pleasure of helping countless people begin their driving journey and achieve their goals. 22th May 2026 - A Driving Test Pass For Owain.
12th May 2026 - The second change to driving test booking rules.
From today, the second change to the driving test booking rules come into force. Only learner drivers will be able to book or change a car driving test. This means driving instructors won't be allowed to book them.
31st Mar 2026 - The first change to driving test booking rules.
From today, the first change to the driving test booking rules come into force. Learner drivers will be limited to two changes or swaps per test booking. A change includes: changing the date or time of your test, changing the test centre or swapping a test between 2 learners.

19th Jan 2026 - Plans to introduce penalty points for drivers caught not wearing seatbelts.
The government’s recently published Road Safety Strategy commits to gathering feedback on introducing penalty points for failure to wear a seatbelt, as well as additional points for drivers who do not ensure child passengers are properly restrained. Currently, motorists face a fine of up to £100 for not wearing a seatbelt, rising to £500 if the case goes to court, but no penalty points are applied. Click Here to read more...
8th Jan 2026 - Changes to pavement parking regulations across England and Wales.
The government has confirmed significant changes to pavement parking rules in England. It paves the way for councils to introduce wider restrictions designed to protect pedestrians while giving local authorities greater flexibility over where vehicles can and cannot mount the kerb. The Department for Transport (DfT) said new powers due later this year will allow councils to control pavement parking across broader areas, rather than relying on the current “lengthy and complex” street-by-street process. report examines the factors affecting DVSA’s ability to resume pre‑pandemic waiting times for driving tests. It does not examine the overall value for money of the government’s response to the issue, or other aspects of DVSA’s operations. It looks at:
• Waiting times for driving tests.
• Changes in the number of driving tests needed.

12th Nov 2025 - Consultation outcome for improving car driving test booking rules.
On 12 November 2025, the Secretary of State for Transport, Heidi Alexander announced the outcome of the consultation to improve car driving test booking rules. They are:
• Only learner drivers will be able to book and manage car driving tests.
• Learner drivers will be limited to making up to 2 changes to their test in total (for example, one change (date or location) and one swap).
• Tests will only be able to be moved to driving test centres within a certain geographical area of the original booking.

19th Dec 2024 - The DVSA's 7-point plan to reduce test waiting times.
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has announced a 7-point plan to reduce test waiting times. Current problems are blamed on a build-up of tests following Covid-19 lockdowns. Since then, DVSA has attempted to solve the issue by recruiting more examiners and opening new test slots by expanding hours and weekend bookings. This latest plan and consultation has been widely welcomed across the industry.
