1st Mar 2022 - DVSA Announcement - Covid-19 Restrictions Lifted.

From today, 1st March 2022, the DVSA have lifted Covid-19 restrictions affecting driving and theory tests in England.

The changes are:

• Face coverings will be a personal choice for practical and theory test candidates and examiners.

• Driving tests will no longer end early, unless the candidate's driving is so poor it is a risk to their safety and that of other road users - in line with the pre-Covid-19 policy.

• Driving instructors and accompanying drivers are able to sit in on driving tests.

• You no longer have to self isolate if you have Covid-19, but the DVSA are encouraging you to rearrange your test if you feel unwell for any reason.


27th Jan 2022 - The Highway Code. Do YOU know the new rules?

Changes to the Highway Code will come into effect this weekend (Saturday 29th January 2022) as a part of Government plans to enhance safety for all road users.

In total, 9 sections of the Highway Code will be updated, with 50 rules being added or updated.

Changes include:

• Hierarchy of road users.

• People crossing at junctions.

• Walking, cycling or riding in shared spaces.

• Positioning in the road when cycling.

• Overtaking when driving or cycling.

• People cycling at junctions.

• People cycling, riding a horse and driving horse-drawn vehicles on roundabouts.

• Parking, charging and leaving vehicles.

10th Jan 2022 - MSM Driving School - 'Top 3 Driving School in Reading' for the 7th year running.

5th Aug 2021 - Proposed DVSA 1.5% Fee Increase.

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) have proposed increases of about 1.5% to fees charged for services, such as theory tests, driving tests and vehicle tests.

This consultation closes at 11:59pm on 2nd of September 2021. Click Here for more information on the proposed increases.


27th May 2021 - MSM Driving School Turns 16.

MSM Driving School turns 16 today. We would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to the 1000’s of you that have learnt to drive with us and supported us over the past 17 years. We couldn’t have done it without you. From all the team at MSM Driving School.


12th Apr 2021 - COVID-19 Update: MSM Driving School is back!

We would to take this opportunity to say thank you to all of our pupils for your patience during this difficult time. We are looking forward to getting back on the road and seeing you all very soon. As the health and safety of our instructors and pupils is our number one priority, driving lessons will be a little different to what you are used to. We will be following all current guidelines before, during and after every lesson to keep you all safe.


12th Mar 2021 - COVID-19 Update: Proposed Driver Training & Testing Dates Announced.

The proposed date to restart driving lessons and training in England is Monday the 12th of April 2021. Theory tests are also due to restart on this date.

Practical driving tests are due to restart 10 days later on Thursday the 22th of April, if Government guidance allows.

If you have a practical driving test booked before the 22nd of April, the DVSA will email you to let you know your test will be rescheduled.


8th Mar 2021 - ‘Driving Instructor of the Year 2021’ Highly Commended Award.

Last night was the Intelligent Instructor’s Awards 2021 and I’m proud to announce that I have been awarded ‘Highly Commended’ within the 'South East Driving Instructor of the Year' category.

This is a huge honour and I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to everyone who nominated me. I could not have done it without your help and support. From Matt at MSM Driving School in Reading.


23rd Jan 2021 - Shortlisted as Intelligent Instructor's ‘Driving Instructor of the Year 2021’.

I am excited to announce that I have been shortlisted for the 2021 Intelligent Instructor's Driving Instructor of the Year award. I am now officially one of the 2021 Intelligent Instructor's top 100 Driving Instructors in the UK and one of the top 16 Driving Instructors in the South East region.

In March, 11 Regional Driving Instructor of the Year winners will be selected by the judging panel with one being crowned the Intelligent Instructor Driving Instructor of the Year 2021!

After a very challenging 2020, I really appreciate all of your support and I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to each and everyone one of you who took the time to nominate me. From Matt at MSM Driving School in Reading.


14th Jan 2021 - COVID-19 Update: Should theory test certificates be extended?

The National Associations Strategic Partnership (NASP) has started a campaign to extend theory test certificates.

NASP has written to Grant Shapps, Secretary of State for Transport, Baroness Vere, Under Secretary of State for Transport, Loveday Ryder, CEO of the DVSA and other senior DVSA staff to encourage a change in the law to extend the expiry date on theory certificates.

NASP said that not extending theory test certificates would put even more pressure on many people who are already suffering severe stress at the uncertainty of their future, especially with younger people having their education thrown into turmoil with the constant movement in the exam structure.


5th Jan 2021 - COVID-19 Update: MSM Driving School is now closed until further notice.

On the 4th of January, the Prime Minister announced a new national lockdown in England to control the spread of COVID-19. Based upon the restrictions imposed, driver training and testing must not take place until the restrictions are lifted. As a result, MSM Driving School is now closed until further notice. 20th Dec 2020 - COVID-19 Update: MSM Driving School is now closed.

Due to the Prime Minister's announcement yesterday evening on the new Tier 4 restrictions in England to control the spread of coronavirus, from today (Sunday the 20th of December), MSM Driving School is now closed. We would like to take this opportunity to wiah you a very merry Christmas and a safe and healthy new year. Once again to say thank you to all of our learner drivers over the past 9 months for your patience and continued support during this difficult time. 19th Dec 2020 - COVID-19 Update: Tier 4 restrictions in England to control the spread of coronavirus.

This evening the Prime Minister announced new Tier 4 restrictions in England to control the spread of coronavirus. From tomorrow (Sunday the 20th of December), London, together with parts of the South East and East of England, will enter Tier 4. Tier 4 restrictions will remain in place until the next formal Government review on the 30th of December.

Driving Lessons: The Government has confirmed that driving lessons must not take place in areas in Tier 4 from the 20th of December until the restrictions are lifted. You must not travel out of a Tier 4 area to give driving lessons or to take a pupil for a test.

Driving Tests: The Government has also confirmed that all car driving tests will be suspended in areas in Tier 4 from the 20th of December until the restrictions are lifted. Candidates who are affected will be emailed by the DVSA to let them know they will reschedule their test.

Theory Tests: All theory tests will be suspended in areas in Tier 4 from the 20th of December until restrictions are lifted. The DVSA will email anyone who has a theory test booked to let them know their test is on hold and that they will need to reschedule it by visiting their website.

13th Nov 2020 - COVID-19 Update: Driver training and tests to resume in England from Thursday the 3rd of December.

The DVSA announced on the 2nd of November 2020 that all practical driver, rider and theory tests would be suspended in England whilst the new national restrictions are in place.

Following clarification from the Government, these restrictions will last up to and including Wednesday 2nd of December. This means all driver, rider and theory tests will restart on Wednesday 2nd of December.

The DVSA have emailed everyone with a test booked between Thursday 5th of November and Wednesday 2nd of December to let them know their new date and time.

Driver and rider training should not restart until Wednesday 2nd of December.

The DVSA will continue to keep the situation under review in line with Government advice.

2nd Nov 2020 - COVID-19 Update: Driver training and tests to be suspended in England from Thursday the 5th of November.

Following the Government announcement on tougher national restrictions from Thursday, driver and rider training and tests will be suspended in England from 5th of November 2020 until 2nd of December 2020.

The DVSA will be providing further guidance and contacting those affected as soon as they can.


21st Aug 2020 - COVID-19 Update: Driving test booking system opens for all in England and Wales at 8am today.

From today, 21st of August, the DVSA will be reopening the online booking service from 8am for everyone. This means anyone will be able to book a driving test in England and Wales.

When arranging a test, you will be able to see available appointments within the next six weeks. The DVSA is not taking bookings any further in advance at the moment so they can react quickly to any changes in government guidance about Coronavirus.

New test slots will be made available every week, on a rolling six-week basis. Please continue to check regularly for a test slot if you cannot find one immediately.

Before booking your test, it is important to check directly with your driving instructor to ensure they are available and to confirm you are ready and well prepared to take a driving test.

25th Jun 2020 - COVID-19 Update: Restarting driver and rider instruction and tests.

The DVSA has announced that driver, rider and vocational trainers can resume in-car training from the 4th of July and have also produced a timetable for overall resumption of training and testing.

Theory tests will restart in England on Saturday 4th of July. The tests will take place with social distancing measures in place to help stop the spread of Coronavirus.

Car driving tests will restart in England on Wednesday 22nd of July, which will give learner drivers time to have refresher lessons and practice before taking their test.

Driving lessons, theory tests and driving tests are still suspended in Scotland and Wales, in line with guidance from the devolved administrations.

Safety measures will be put in place to protect learners and examiners from COVID-19 and information on how to implement these measures will be published in due course.


15th Jun 2020 - COVID-19 Update: All theory tests rescheduled.

All theory tests in England, Scotland and Wales from the 22nd of June up to and including the 3rd of July have been rescheduled due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.


12th Jun 2020 - COVID-19 Update: All theory tests in England rescheduled up to the 21st June.

All theory tests in England from the 15th to 21st of June have been rescheduled due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.


5th Jun 2020 - COVID-19 Update: All theory tests in England rescheduled up to the 14th June.

All theory tests in England from the 8th to 14th of June have been rescheduled due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

The DVSA are preparing test centres for a safe return to testing for all candidates. Social distancing measures are being put in place.


4th Jun 2020 - COVID-19 Update: DVLA grants 7 month photocard licence extension.

The extension applies to drivers with a photocard driving licence due to expire between 1 Feb and 31 Aug 2020.

Drivers with a photocard driving licence due to expire between 1st of February and 31st of August 2020 will be granted a 7 month extension from the date of expiry the DVLA has announced today (4 June 2020). This will help drivers to make necessary journeys without having to obtain a new photograph to renew their licence.

Normally drivers are required to renew their photocard licence every 10 years, and bus and lorry drivers every 5 years. A new EU regulation has now been introduced which means photocards that expire between 1 February and 31 August 2020 will be automatically extended for a further 7 months from the date of expiry.

Drivers will be sent a reminder to renew before their 7 month extension ends.
